Paritätischer Campus Blücher – a social place in the Blücher neighbourhood

Paritätischer Campus Blücher is a vibrant social location in Berlin-Kreuzberg. On the site between Blücherstraße and Schleiermacherstraße, housing, support, inclusion, childcare and encounters come together in one shared place.

The campus stands for social neighbourhood, practical everyday help and open community life in the neighbourhood. People in different life situations find housing, support, counselling, community and opportunities for active participation here.

Development

From a former senior residence to a social campus

The former Heinrich-Plett-Haus (Blücherstr. 26/26A) was built in 1960 and used for many years as a senior residence. In 2012, VITA e.V. Berlin and Jugendwohnen im Kiez e.V. acquired the building and the associated site of around 7,500 square metres. With the jointly founded subsidiary Blücherstraße 26 Housing gGmbH, the aim was established to secure affordable housing and strengthen social services in the neighbourhood.

After the site was developed with two additional buildings and the building at Blücherstr. 26/26A was comprehensively renovated, Paritätischer Campus Blücher officially opened on 12 September 2025. Today, the location is a shared centre for housing, inclusion, childcare and neighbourhood encounters.

Services

Housing, support and childcare

The campus offers a range of housing and support services. These include apartments for existing tenants, housing options for people experiencing homelessness, therapeutic forms of housing, integration assistance for people with mental health impairments, outpatient assisted living for people in need of care, a shared apartment for people with dementia, and assisted individual living for young people and people in training.

A daycare centre with 80 places complements the offer and also makes the campus an important place for families in the neighbourhood. This creates a social location where different generations, life paths and support services come together.

Get involved

Opportunities for encounter and participation

The campus is not only a place to live, but also a place to get involved. Throughout the year, various low-threshold activities take place in the Blücher neighbourhood and on the campus. They are open, close to everyday life and promote encounter, exchange and participation.

These include a sewing workshop, a workshop group for small repairs, gardening activities, creative offers, storytelling sessions, singing together, meetings over coffee and cake, and regular neighbourhood flea markets. A special highlight is the annual neighbourhood summer festival.

These offers create simple ways into the neighbourhood. People can start conversations, receive practical support, contribute their own skills and actively help shape the campus.

Approach

Open, inclusive and close to people

Paritätischer Campus Blücher stands for an open, inclusive and anti-racist community. The aim is to create a welcoming social space in which people are welcome regardless of origin, age or life situation.

The activities on the campus strengthen community, promote participation and support the social work of the local projects. The focus is always also on helping people in everyday life and making encounters possible in the neighbourhood.

Operator

Operator of the location

The initiator and organiser of the non-profit activities on Paritätischer Campus Blücher is Blücherstraße 26 Housing gGmbH. It secures housing for social purposes, supports the development of the location and makes the shared campus activities visible.

This makes Paritätischer Campus Blücher a place for social neighbourhood in Berlin today: open, diverse, practical and close to people.
